Composition

INSPIRATION
In 1921, Gabrielle Chanel commissioned Ernest Beaux to create "a women's perfume that smells like a woman," extraordinary and powerful. His nose suggested a visionary composition that called for an unprecedented use of aldehydes. Mademoiselle selected version 5 of the fragrance and decided to retain this simple number as its name. In 1924, she launched Eau de Toilette N°5.
Floral - Aldehydic Olfactory Family
- Top notes are aldehydes, ylang-ylang, neroli, Amalfi lemon and bergamot
- Middle notes are iris, jasmine, rose, orris root and lily-of-the-valley.
- Base notes are civet, musk, sandalwood, oakmoss, vetiver, amber, vanilla and patchouli.
THE ART OF PERFUME
N°5 Eau de Toilette is sprayed onto the skin or the back of garments in a gentle, enveloping motion.
